BECE English: What to Do When the Essay Is the Weak Paper

8 October 20267 min read

Plenty of JHS students are "good at English" in class and still drop the essay or the comprehension. The objective paper can look fine while Paper 2 is where the grade lives.

Name the paper, then the fault

If letters come out thin, practise letters: the address, the tone, the point of the letter. If stories wander, practise a story with a clear middle, not a longer one. If comprehension marks disappear, stop highlighting the whole passage. Answer the question that was asked, in the number of points it asked for.

Grammar objectives still need work, but they will not rescue an essay that has no shape.

A practical loop

  1. Write one piece under a time you can keep. Forty minutes is more honest than an open evening.
  2. Review it against the question: Did you do the form? Did you answer the task? Where did the English break?
  3. Do one more on the same form later in the week. A new form every night teaches nothing.

Check English on its own with the free diagnostic, then read the misses on the review. BECE as a whole is on the BECE page.
