What is the WASSCE?
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is the final exam taken by Senior High School (SHS) students across West Africa. In Ghana, it is administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and is the primary qualification for university admission.
WASSCE results are graded from A1 (Excellent) to F9 (Fail). Students need strong grades in their core subjects and electives to gain admission to competitive university programmes. WASSCE 2026 preparation should begin well before the April 20 start date.
