JHS 1, JHS 2, and JHS 3, studied as three different years

Junior high in Ghana is not one long revision. JHS 1 is the foundation. JHS 2 is where a quiet gap becomes a habit. JHS 3 is the BECE year, and the aggregate is the six best grades. The work that helps is the same shape in each year: find the topic, practise it, review what you missed.

What each year is for

A student starts in the year they are already in. JHS 2 does not have to finish every JHS 1 chapter before they are allowed to practise. A child still in primary school, who wants a first look before admission, starts on JHS 1 work: primary to JHS 1.

JHS 1

Keep up with class, and check English and Mathematics before the term ends. A short practice after school is enough. The point is to see the topic that did not land, while the teacher is still on it. The full year is JHS 1.

JHS 2

Algebra, science cycles, and longer English answers start to separate students. This is the year to close a subject that is merely "okay". Okay in JHS 2 is often a grade you do not want on the BECE slip. The full year is JHS 2.

JHS 3

You are still in school, and the exam is close. Spend the time on the subjects that can still move the aggregate, then on the topics inside those subjects. The full year is JHS 3. The exam itself is on the BECE page.

How the loop helps a JHS student improve

  1. A diagnostic names the subject and the topic. The free check does this for one subject, with no account. With an account, a start-level check looks across the subjects you take.
  2. You get a label: On Track, Improving, or At Risk. A parent can read the same label. It is a study signal. It is not a WAEC grade and it does not promise placement.
  3. Practice stays on the topic that was named. You are not asked to restart the textbook.
  4. Review shows the question, what you chose, and the right answer. When the question has an explanation, you see it. The ones you missed can come back in Review and Fix. That is how you know the hour worked.

Read what that review contains on the review page. The five checks are on the diagnostics page. Senior high is a different syllabus: SHS 1 to SHS 3.

A week that is actually doable

  • Monday: the free check, or a subject that is already At Risk.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: questions on one weak topic only.
  • Thursday: review the misses from those two days, then one fresh set.
  • Friday: a short paper on that subject, timed if you are in JHS 3.

Subject guides for the JHS syllabus are on the subjects page. Plans and what they include are on pricing.

Common questions

Is JHS study the same as BECE preparation?

JHS 3 is the BECE year. JHS 1 and JHS 2 are when the subjects are built. A student who waits until the final term of JHS 3 is revising gaps that have been open for two years. The same loop works in all three years. The BECE page is for the exam itself.

Which subjects should a JHS student check first?

English, Mathematics, and Science. Those three sit inside almost every aggregate. Social Studies and the other subjects still need a label, but a weak core subject is the one to repair first.

Can a JHS student start without paying?

Yes. The free diagnostic needs no account and checks one subject. The fuller checks, and Review and Fix, follow the plan on the pricing page.
