Past questions work after you know which topic to open

In Ghana, students call them pasco. Olearna treats them the way a school should: BECE papers stay with JHS, WASSCE papers stay with SHS, and both follow the syllabus for that exam. A booklet is useful on the evening you already know the weak topic. Opening page one of every subject because the exam is coming spends the evening without choosing one.

Find the topic, then practise

BECE past questions

BECE is the junior-high exam, taken in JHS 3, with a resit path for some candidates after results. The papers follow the subjects schools teach under the NaCCA curriculum: Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, Computing, Career Technology, RME, Creative Arts and Design, and the language options. Older pamphlets still say ICT and BDT. Treat those as the earlier names, and check you are revising what your school taught this year.

A sensible BECE week is one subject from the free diagnostic, then past-style questions on the topics it named, then a review of the misses. The longer note is how to practise BECE past questions. The exam page is BECE preparation. JHS 1 and JHS 2 should not live inside JHS 3 papers: their page is JHS.

WASSCE past questions

WASSCE is a different exam. Core Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies are the cores. Electives depend on the programme: Physics is not Integrated Science, and Elective Mathematics is not Core Mathematics. A BECE Science pamphlet will not prepare an SHS elective.

Start with the core that is At Risk, or the elective the school mock just exposed. The longer note is how to practise WASSCE past questions. The exam page is WASSCE preparation, and the school years are on SHS.

How to spend the evening

  1. Pick one subject. Leave the rest of the stack closed.
  2. Work the questions before you read the answers at the back.
  3. Mark it. Write down the topic of each miss, in your own words.
  4. Read the explanation when one is there. Skip hunting for a perfect worked solution on a question that has none.
  5. The next session stays on those topics. A new full paper comes after that, not instead of it.

Olearna holds 40,000+ approved practice questions across the public subject guides. That count is approved questions, not a promise that every WAEC paper since the 1990s is scanned into the account, and not a promise that every question has an explanation. The syllabus those questions sit on is described on the syllabus page. When you want a full timed paper, use mock exams. When you want the national pattern of mistakes, read how to use the chief examiner's report.

Common questions

Are these the official WAEC past questions?

Olearna holds 40,000+ approved practice questions written to the BECE and WASSCE syllabuses, including past-paper topics. Not every question is a scan of an official paper, and not every question has a written explanation. WAEC remains the publisher of the official papers.

Should a JHS 1 student start with BECE pasco?

Not as the whole evening. JHS 1 and JHS 2 should practise topics they have met in class. Full BECE papers belong later, once a diagnostic has shown which subject is behind. An SHS student should use WASSCE papers, not a sibling’s BECE pamphlet.

What should I do after I mark a past question?

Look at the question, the option you chose, and the right answer. If an explanation is there, read the step you skipped. Then practise that topic again. A score with no review is a number you will meet again in the same form.
