What a JHS 1 Student Should Practise First
JHS 1 is the year the subjects are still new. The useful habit is a short check after class, not a cupboard of BECE pamphlets. If English and Mathematics are steady now, JHS 3 is a revision year. If they are shaky now, JHS 3 is a rescue.
Start with two subjects
English and Mathematics decide a lot of later work. Science can join in the second term. Social Studies and the others still matter for class, but they should not be the first thing you measure.
Take one subject at a time on the free diagnostic. You will see On Track, Improving, or At Risk. That label is for you and a parent. It is not a BECE grade.
What a week can look like
- Two evenings on the topic the check named. Twenty to thirty minutes is enough after a long school day.
- One evening to look at the questions you missed. Read your choice and the right answer before you do a new set.
- Leave BECE past papers for later in the year, and only on topics you have already met in class.
What to ignore for now
A full mock every weekend. Eight subjects in one evening. Extra classes in every subject because a neighbour's child started them. JHS 1 rewards the student who can say which topic was hard on Tuesday.
The year-by-year picture is on the JHS page. When you want to see the miss clearly, read what review shows.
