NaCCA Subjects: Computing, Career Technology, and the Old Names

A lot of BECE pamphlets in Ghana still say ICT and BDT. The current junior-high curriculum from NaCCA uses Computing, and Career Technology. Parents search both spellings, NaCCA and NACCA. The student only needs one decision: practise the subject on this year's timetable.

What changed in ordinary language

Computing covers the computer, the internet, documents, spreadsheets, and a first look at how programs are written. If an old paper says ICT, it is usually this neighbourhood of work. Read the question. Some older items assume software names your school no longer uses.

Career Technology brings together the practical work that used to be split across Pre-Technical Skills and Home Economics topics, including making, tools, and a bit of enterprise. BDT on an old cover is the clue to look here, then confirm with the teacher which strand the class has done.

Creative Arts and Design, Religious and Moral Education, and the languages were not "renamed ICT". Leave them on their own evenings.

How to revise without buying three books

• Ask which textbook the school is using this term. That book wins over a 2014 pamphlet.
• Take one subject on the diagnostic. Computing this week, Career Technology next week, if both are on the timetable.
• When you use an old paper, skip any question about a tool or a menu the class has never seen. Do the question if the idea is the same.
