SHS 1: How to Study the First Year Properly

8 October 20267 min read

The uniform changes and students assume the method can stay the same. It cannot. Core Mathematics is not JHS mathematics with larger numbers. English asks for control you did not need at BECE. Electives are new, and nobody will rewind them in SHS 3.

The first term

Keep notes by topic, not by date. A date-order notebook is hard to revise. After a topic ends in class, do a short set of questions on it that week. If you miss them, review the miss before the next topic starts. That is the whole method. It is boring. It works.

Do not wait for "serious" year

SHS 3 is serious because the certificate is close. The learning was supposed to happen earlier. An elective you do not understand in SHS 1 will still be on the registration form.

Use the SHS page for the three years, and the free diagnostic on one subject when you are not sure where you stand. Questions stay in the SHS pool. You will not be handed JHS items to fill the time.
