WASSCE Core Mathematics: Where the Marks Usually Go
Core Mathematics is sat by a huge number of SHS students, and it is not Elective Mathematics. Mixing the two in one revision pile wastes both.
Where people lose the marks
Algebra that looked fine in a note and breaks in a question. Mensuration when the formula is remembered and the substitution is wrong. Statistics and probability when the question is read too fast. Trigonometry when the diagram is skipped. The exact paper changes. The pattern of loss is stable: the topic you avoid, done under time, with no working.
Do not buy a secret list of "ten questions that always come". Use your own misses. They are more accurate than a pamphlet.
How to practise a topic
- Questions on that topic until the idea is familiar.
- Review every miss the same day. If there is an explanation, read the step you skipped, not only the final letter.
- A short timed set later in the week. Paper 2 style means the working has to be there.
Confirm the topics against your syllabus and your teacher's scheme. Then stay with the ones you miss. The wider exam is on WASSCE, and the school years on SHS.
