WASSCE English: Summary, Essay, and What to Practise

8 October 20267 min read

SHS students often revise English by reading essays online. That can show you a tone. It does not train the two places marks quietly leave: summary, and an essay that ignored the form.

Summary

Read the question before you mine the passage. Write the points it asked for, in your own words, at the length you were given. Copying a sentence feels safe and scores like copying. If your summary is long, you probably included the story instead of the point.

Essay

A letter, an article, a speech, and a debate are different jobs. Practise the one you botch. Check the layout, the person you are speaking to, and whether you answered the task in the first paragraph. Grammar still matters. A perfect tense will not save a speech that never makes the argument.

Objectives

Lexis and structure need their own short sets. Do them, then go back to the paper that is actually weak. A high objective score with a thin Paper 2 is a common SHS story.

Review a piece the way you would review a maths miss: what did the question ask, and where did you leave it? More on that is on the review page.
