OlearnaJHS 2 is a full school year, and it is the year to close a gap
BECE is next year. The work is this year. Algebra gets longer. Science asks for cycles, not only names. English answers stop being one sentence. A JHS 2 student can start on Monday on the subject that is merely okay, while the teacher is still teaching it.
Start from JHS 2, even if JHS 1 was uneven
You are in JHS 2. The first check is a JHS 2 subject, on the NaCCA syllabus your school is teaching. If the questions fail because a JHS 1 idea never held, that idea is the evening's practice. Then you come back to the current topic. The JHS 1 page is there when you need that topic. It is not a course you must finish before you are allowed to be in JHS 2.
What usually needs the hour
- Mathematics: the algebra and word problems that showed up this term.
- English: comprehension and the longer answer, not a stack of essays every night.
- Science: the cycle or system the class just left, before it becomes "we did that last term".
- Social Studies and the other subjects, on a later week, once one core has a label.
How a JHS 2 week moves a label
- Check one subject. Read On Track, Improving, or At Risk. A parent can read the same words.
- Practise the topic that was named. Two evenings is enough.
- Review the misses: your choice, the right answer, the explanation when one exists.
- Leave the eight-subject mock for JHS 3. A short paper on the one subject is plenty in JHS 2.
The exam those topics are walking toward is BECE. The year you are in is still JHS 2. Both can be true. The overview of all three years is JHS.
Common questions
Is JHS 2 too early for BECE practice?
JHS 2 is the right year to practise JHS 2 topics properly. A full BECE mock belongs later. A topic the class has taught can be checked this week.
What if JHS 1 was weak?
Start the check on the JHS 2 subject that is shaky. If the miss is really a JHS 1 topic, practise that topic, then return to the current one. You do not repeat the whole of JHS 1 first.
Which subject should a JHS 2 student check first?
The core that is only okay: usually English, Mathematics, or Science. Okay in JHS 2 is often the subject that hurts the aggregate in JHS 3.
