WASSCE Resit 2027: Private Candidates Who Missed the September Sitting

2 October 20268 min read

If your 2026 school WASSCE result arrived in the first week of September and a subject is not good enough, you are late for the exam that was already underway. The second series for private candidates started on 4 September 2026 and runs to 29 October. Registration had closed on 28 August. That series is not a door you can reopen from a results slip.

Start with a free diagnostic in the subject you may resit

What "resit" means at WAEC

A resit is the WASSCE for private candidates, not a quiet rewrite inside your old school. You choose subjects, you pay the council, you sit where you are assigned, and the grade from that sitting is the one you will show a university. People still call the later-year sitting NOVDEC. In 2026 the second series was a September to October exam, not a November surprise. Names change. The registration deadline does not.

The window that is still in front of you

WAEC's usual first series for private candidates is January or February. As of 2 October 2026 the 2027 timetable and fees were not something we could quote from the council. When they appear, they will be on waecgh.org and the unified registration site, not in a voice note. Until then, treat every "I can register you tonight" offer as unofficial.

Use the wait:

  1. List only the subjects a real admission letter will reject. Resitting four electives because you are ashamed of one C is how people arrive tired and still miss Core Mathematics.
  2. Pull the syllabus topics you dropped, not the whole textbook.
  3. Run Olearna's diagnostic. On Track can rest. At Risk is the paper you do this week.
  4. Practise under time. A resit fails in the last forty minutes as often as it fails on content.

Core papers first

Core Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies carry more doors than a single elective. If Core Mathematics is F9, that is the diagnostic to take today. Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, and the rest still matter for specific programmes. They are second only if the core grade is already safe.

Olearna keeps 40,000+ approved questions and shows one label per subject. Improving means you are better and a gap is still open. That is a more honest sentence than "guaranteed A1".
