What to Do After the School Mock, for JHS and for SHS

9 October 20266 min read

The school mock is the paper everyone in the class sat. The percentage is what gets copied into a book. The topics you missed are what can still change the real paper. Treat those as the plan for the next week, for BECE or for WASSCE.

The evening the script comes back

  1. Write the subject and three topics that cost marks. Stop at three.
  2. If you cannot name the topics, the script was marked and not read. Sit with it for twenty minutes before you do anything else.
  3. Tell a parent the three topics, not only the percentage. A percentage without a topic becomes another set of extra classes in every subject.

JHS and SHS do not share the next step

A JHS 3 student who missed fractions goes back to fractions on the BECE Mathematics syllabus. An SHS student who missed the same word "fractions" on a Core Mathematics script is in a different course, with different later topics. Do not hand your older sibling's WASSCE paper to a JHS 2 student and call it practice.

Integrated Science misses stay on Integrated Science. Physics misses stay on Physics. Mixing them feels efficient and teaches the wrong paper.

When to sit another full paper

After those three topics have had real practice, and you have looked at what you got wrong. Another mock the same night only proves you are tired. The longer version is on mock exams, and a bad-script week is also covered in after a bad mock.
