After the Results: What JHS and SHS Teachers Can Do Next
By the time WAEC publishes, the class that sat has left or is waiting on placement. The class that needs you is the one still on the timetable. Results are a rear-view mirror. They are still the best map you will get of which topics your department keeps losing.
Separate three groups
Candidates waiting on a resit or a withheld script
You cannot rewrite their grade. You can point them at the official pages and at a diagnostic that names the topic, not the shame. Send them to the BECE resit guide or the WASSCE resit guide rather than a pep talk.
The form below them
If Core Mathematics or English collapsed again, the JHS 2 or SHS 2 scheme of work is where the hour goes. Do not wait for the mock in the final term to discover algebra.
Your own marking
A department meeting that only reads out the pass rate will repeat the pass rate. A meeting that lists the questions students left blank is a scheme of work.
How Olearna fits a class
Each student can take a diagnostic and carry On Track, Improving, or At Risk on a subject. You see the same labels. That is not a replacement for your marking, and it is not a claim that software marked the WAEC paper. It is a way to stop setting the same homework for the student who is fine and the student who is not.
Assign the At Risk topic. Look again in two weeks. Improving with the gap still open means the homework was not finished, not that the label is decorative.
