SHS 2 is the year people coast, and the year to repair an elective
WASSCE is next year. The elective that is already shaky will not become clear in the first week of SHS 3. An SHS 2 student can start on that elective, or on the core that has been quiet since first year, while the teacher is still teaching it.
Start from the year you are in
You are in SHS 2. The check is an SHS 2 subject on your programme, on the older or the current WAEC syllabus, whichever the school has you on. If the miss belongs to SHS 1, practise that topic and return. First year is not a wall you have to climb again from the first page.
One core, one elective
- Core: Core Mathematics or English if either has gone quiet.
- Science students: the elective that is behind, kept apart from Integrated Science.
- Other programmes: the elective on the timetable that the last class test exposed.
- Social Studies on its own week. It is a core, and it is not a substitute for Government or Economics.
A week that still leaves time for school
- Name the weaker of the two subjects. Check it if you are guessing.
- Two evenings on one topic. Review the misses the same night.
- The other subject gets the weekend, or next week. Not both in one exhausted evening.
- A timed paper can wait until SHS 3, unless the school has already set a mock in this subject.
The exam those subjects are walking toward is WASSCE. The year you are sitting in is SHS 2. The three years are on SHS.
Common questions
Is SHS 2 too early to take the work seriously?
SHS 2 is the year electives split into students who can do them and students who are hoping SHS 3 will fix it. A check now uses the teacher who is still in the room.
What if SHS 1 was weak?
Start on the SHS 2 subject that is shaky. If the miss is an SHS 1 topic, practise that topic and come back. You do not repeat the whole of first year before you are allowed to revise.
Should every elective be revised every night?
One core and one elective in a week. The rest wait. A student who opens every paper every evening finishes none of them.
