SHS 3 is still class, and it is the WASSCE year
Lessons continue. The certificate is made of the subjects you are registered for: four cores, then the electives. An SHS 3 student can start this week on the registered subject that is behind, including a student whose first two years were uneven. A resit candidate starts on the syllabus they are writing, which may be the earlier one.
Where an SHS 3 student starts
The core that is At Risk comes before an elective you already enjoy, unless that elective is the one the school mock just broke. Core Mathematics stays apart from Elective Mathematics. Integrated Science stays apart from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The exam page is WASSCE. This page is for the student who is still in the SHS 3 classroom.
If the miss is an SHS 1 or SHS 2 topic, practise that topic and come back to the current question. The earlier year is a topic, not a second full course you must complete tonight.
A week in the exam year
- One subject from the registration.
- The diagnostic if you cannot name the topic.
- Past questions on that topic, then review.
- A timed paper after the topic has moved, not as a punishment the same night. See mock exams.
The three senior-high years are on SHS. A younger sibling in junior high is on JHS, which is a different syllabus. A child still in primary school who wants a look at junior high starts on primary to JHS 1.
Common questions
Is SHS 3 only WASSCE revision?
SHS 3 still has lessons. WASSCE is the exam at the end. The useful week is the registered subject that is At Risk, then the topic inside it.
Can an SHS 3 student start if SHS 1 and SHS 2 were weak?
Yes. Start with the check on the weakest registered subject. Practise the topic it names, including an earlier topic if that is the real miss. You do not replay two years of notebooks before you revise.
Do resit candidates use the same page?
A candidate writing WASSCE again uses the syllabus on their registration, which may be the older one. Current SHS 3 students use the syllabus their school is on. Those two are kept apart.
