BECE 2026 Results Are Out: What to Do Next

2 October 20268 min read

WAEC released the provisional 2026 BECE results for school candidates on 30 July 2026. If you are staring at a slip, or at a child who will not show you the slip, start with the official result. Then decide whether the next step is placement, a subject you must repair, or a resit.

See where you stand now, free, before you pay for another class

Check the result on WAEC, not on a screenshot

School results go to schools through metropolitan, municipal, and district education offices. Candidates can also use WAEC's own results pages, including eresults.waecgh.org and waecgh.org. A forwarded photo is not a result. If a number looks wrong, the school and WAEC are the places that can say so.

On release day WAEC said it had withheld the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools, cancelled the entire results of 105 candidates, and cancelled subject results for 496 candidates. On 3 September 2026, WAEC's head of public affairs said results that had been held for scrutiny had been released, and that any result still pending was about missing continuous-assessment marks, not a malpractice hold. If yours is still blank, ask the school about continuous assessment before you assume the worst. Withheld cases have their own page: see our note on withheld WAEC results.

What the grades are for

BECE grades run from 1 (highest) to 9 (lowest). Placement into senior high school and technical institutes uses the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). The Ministry of Education's 7 September 2026 briefing, reported by several Ghana newsrooms, said 57,259 candidates were not placed in the first pass. Of those, 35,382 had grade 9 in English or Mathematics and could use self-placement, 18,505 had grade 9 in both, and 3,372 did not sit and were to be given a resit. Confirm your own status on the CSSPS portal. A news total is not your letter.

Three paths, not one panic

You have a placement you can take

Accept it through the official portal. Then use the months before SHS to repair the subject that was weakest. SHS does not rewind BECE, but Core Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies all assume the JHS work is in place.

You were not placed, but you have grades

Read the self-placement guide and the grade 9 English and Mathematics note. Self-placement and a later resit are different decisions. Do not pay a middleman to "fix placement".

You need another sitting

Re-sitters register as private candidates and must give the index number and year of the last sitting. The 2026 private BECE has already been written. The next window is the following private BECE. WAEC's own private-candidate page says registration is online and follows the school-candidate entry period. Watch waecgh.org/home/bece-private rather than a WhatsApp broadcast.

What to practise while you wait

A result names a grade. It does not name the topic. Olearna's free diagnostic does. It is a short check, with no account required, and it labels each subject On Track, Improving, or At Risk. The label is the same one a parent or teacher sees later. We do not publish a made-up "our students gained two grades" figure. What you can watch is the label moving as the weak topics get practice.

Olearna has 40,000+ approved practice questions across BECE and WASSCE subjects. Start with English, Mathematics, and Science if those grades are the ones blocking placement.
